The Board of Directors of Attica Enterprises S.A. is pleased to announce that the keel laying for the six new Superfast Ferries took place today in a unique ceremony held at Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG, in Kiel, Germany. The six Superfast Ferries of Attica Enterprises S.A., an investment of over US Dollars 650 million represent the largest investment in the history of Greek shipping.
The ferries of about 31,000 GRT are designed to carry passengers, cars and trucks at a speed in excess of 28 knots. The first pair will be delivered in the 1st half of 2000 and will be deployed in the Greece - Italy routes. Superfast III and IV sail daily from Patras directly to Ancona and Superfast I and II connect daily Patras and Igoumenitsa to Bari and vice-versa. Further four Superfast vessels will be delivered in 2001.
The passengers can enjoy cruise liner standards of comfort in the bars, restaurants and public rooms including disco lounge, children/s playroom, casino, shops and boutiques. The ferries RoRo facilities are spread over four vehicle decks. Specially designed ramps provide optimum loading and discharging facilities.
With the addition of these six ships Attica Enterprises S.A. will have a fleet of 10 vessels, making them the youngest and most advanced ferry fleet in the world.
