SUPERFAST V JOINS THE ATTICA FLEET IN THE ADRIATIC SEA ROUTES

The Board of Directors of Attica Enterprises S.A. is pleased to announce the delivery of its latest addition to the company’s fleet, the brand new and ultramodern, 31,500-GRT car-passenger ferry Superfast V, sistership of Superfast VI which was delivered on 6th February, 2001.  The delivery of the 30 knot, state-of-the-art Superfast V to her owners and naming ceremony took place today at Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft AG in Kiel, Germany.

The new pair of ships have capacity for 1,600 passengers, 200 private vehicles and 140 large trucks, each and public spaces including restaurants, bars, shops, conference rooms, children’s playroom, disco lounge and swimming pool.

Superfast V will join Superfast I, Superfast II, Superfast III, Superfast IV and Superfast VI in the Greece-Italy routes where the company is the market leader in both passenger and freight traffic. Superfast V will trade in the Patras-Ancona-Patras and Patras-Igoumenitsa-Ancona-Igoumenitsa-Patras routes as of next Thursday 12th April, 2001, in a four–ship daily service between Ancona, Italy and the Greek ports of Patras and Igoumenitsa.

In addition to the six Superfast ferries in the Adriatic Sea service, four brand new Superfast ferries, currently under construction at Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft in Germany, will start ferry services in the Baltic Sea, between Germany, Finland and Sweden as of next month. Furthermore, two more Superfast ferries ordered at Flender Werft, Lübeck, Germany, are due for delivery in the first half of 2002 and a new two-ship ferry service linking directly Scotland to the European Continent is due to start as of spring 2002.

In summary, the planned itineraries of the company’s Superfast fleet in the Adriatic, the Baltic and the North Sea are as follows: 

  • Patras-Igoumenitsa-Bari and v.v. (2 ships): Superfast I and Superfast II
  • Patras-Ancona and Patras-Igoumenitsa-Ancona and v.v.(4 ships): Superfast III, Superfast IV, Superfast V & Superfast VI
  • Rostock-Hanko-Rostock (2 ships): Superfast VII and Superfast VIII - as of May 2001
  • Rostock-Södertälje-Rostock (2 ships): Superfast IX and Superfast X - 1st quarter 2002
  • Rosyth-Cont. Europe-Rosyth (2ships): Superfast XI and Superfast XII - as of May 2002

Further to the new services in the Baltic and the North Sea, our company is planning the deployment of two brand new Superfast-type ferries in the domestic trade between Piraeus-Crete and Piraeus-Kos-Rhodes
